The Peer Pay Collective was founded by friends and colleagues, Alix and Crystal, who share a deep appreciation for the power of connection. Through years of professional experience, we’ve seen the incredible value that comes from shared knowledge and the unique skills each of our peers brings to their work.
We’ve also witnessed the frustration of working in silos—rebuilding PowerPoint presentations, spending hours researching best practices, or recreating resources that already exist. Accessing that collective wisdom shouldn’t be so complicated, and Peer Pay Collective was created to change that.
While technology and artificial intelligence have made information more accessible than ever, there is no substitute for lived experience, professional judgment, and human insight. The wisdom of practitioners—earned through real work, real challenges, and real outcomes—remains at the heart of meaningful progress.

Dr. Alix Blackshaw is a Family Physician based in Calgary, Alberta. She has worked in both rural and urban environments and cares deeply about her colleagues’ success and happiness within their roles. Crystal Virtanen is a Registered Educational Psychologist based in the West Yellowhead of Alberta, Canada. Originally from Nova Scotia, Crystal has spent her career investing in supporting others to have access to the knowledge and skills they need to live their life the way they want.
